Sharon Nichols, Detroit 911 Dispatcher Found GuiltyOn Friday, a Detroit jury found Sharon Nichols, 43, guilty of willful neglect of duty, a one year misdemeanor, for treating a boy's emergency call about his dying mother as a prank.

The 36th District Court deliberated for just a few hours before returning the verdict after hearing tapes in court showing that Robert Turner, 5 years old at the time, called 911 reporting his mother had collapsed.

3 hours later Robert called back and Dispatcher Terri Sutton answered the 911 call. Although Sutton also treated the call as a prank, she dispatched a Detroit Police Officer to the residence where the Officer found Sherill Turner, 46, dead from a heart attack. Charges against Sutton were later dropped by the judge on this case.
