Judges in two Michigan Courts have passed down rather...unique sentences lately that will hopefully make these criminals and others think twice before breaking the law again.

Circuit Judge John McBain recently sentenced a Jackson woman who repeatedly shoplifted from Kmart to advertise her crime in front of the 3001 E. Michigan Ave. store. Stephanie Cunningham, 38, agreed to carry a sign that will read: "I got caught stealing from this store. Don't let it happen to you."

Closer to home, Kyle Endicott, a 19 year old a Traverse City native living in Grand Rapids while attending Kendall College of Art, was recently sentenced by Kent County Circuit Judge Dennis Leiber for spray painting his tagger images across the engraved names of dead soldiers at Veterans Memorial Park in Grand Rapids.

The full sentence was delayed for three months until Aug. 7. During that time, he must serve community service, pay restitution and write a biography of one of the soldiers names he defaced on the downtown memorial.

Judge Leiber also had harsh words for Endicott, "It is clear to me you are a disgrace to your family, a disgrace to your school and you have insulted the community by your conduct," Leiber said. "Those names represent lives and families."
