Governor Granholm has recently signed an executive order slashing the Michigan state budget by $134 million dollars. The cuts include the closing of at least two prison facilities and paroling many other inmates, and that may be just the beginning.
This order is in response to a widening Michigan budget deficit that must be closed according to the Michigan state constitution. Experts say another $100 million dollars in cuts will be necessary to achieve a balanced budget.
The Granholm administration has produced a list of frequently asked questions about the cuts that can be read here.
