It's not been a good session in the legislature for those of us here on the west side of the state. It seems Rep. David Agema (another Ottawa County Republican) has introduced house bill 5624 that would require:
(1) If a public employer offers health benefits to its employees or elected
officials, each employee or elected official shall pay a percentage of
the premium cost of the health benefits that equals or exceeds 15%."
“(2) Health benefit copayments, deductibles, or coinsurance payments are in addition to, and not included in, the share of the cost of health benefits required under subsection (1)”.
The bill was introduced on December 1st and was referred to committee where it has stalled. However another West Michigan Republican, Dave Hildenbrand of Lowell, has introduced a similar bill (HB5638) that would prohibit any municipality from paying more than 85% of any public employees health care costs.
