There are offenses in Michigan for which part of the penalty is a suspension of your driving privileges. The list below will help you understand these offenses and how they affect your driver's license in Michigan: Teens, Alcohol and Minors in Possession of Alcohol
Drivers
between the ages of 16 and 20 are typically the least experienced
drivers on the road. When alcohol is added to their inexperience, the
results can be even more deadly. Male teenage drivers with a bodily
alcohol content between 0.05 and 0.10 percent are 18 times more likely
than a sober, male teen driver to be killed in a single vehicle crash.
Female teenagers are 54 times more likely to be killed than a sober
counterpart. Any involvement with alcohol by teens can result in the
loss of their license. Simply possessing any alcoholic beverage,
whether in a motor vehicle or not, can result in a license suspension
for a teen.

Legislation
(Michigan Vehicle Code Sections 257.320e and 257.321c ) was enacted to
suspend the driver license and occupational license of parents if they
are behind in payments of their child support. The Child Support
suspension is identified as an FCJ suspension.
When
a driver has a Child Support suspension, an Order Rescinding License
Suspension must be presented to clear the suspension at any Secretary
of State branch office. A required $85.00 clearance fee must also be
paid at the Secretary of State branch office. The rescinding order must
be identified as a Child Support order. Drivers should be referred to
the Friend of the Court for any questions regarding this suspension.
Q. What is a financial-responsibility judgment?
1. Owner's, which insures any vehicle registered in the name of the responsible party.
2. Operator's, which insures the responsible party in any vehicle not registered in the subject's name.
The
subject may carry just owner's or operator's insurance or may carry
both, whatever meets the subject's needs. The subject applies for the
financial-responsibility insurance at an insurance agent of their
choosing. The application is sent to the home office of the issuing
company, and the home office supplies the State of Michigan with the
necessary certificates of insurance. This process may take between two
and four weeks to complete. An application for insurance is not acceptable.
Q. I have a financial-responsibility driver license and I want to purchase another vehicle. What do I have to do?
Drug LawsMichigan law requires driver license suspensions for drug convictions, even if you were not driving at the time of the offense. If there are no prior drug violations, your driver license is suspended for six months. No restricted license is allowed for the first 30 days. One or more prior drug convictions in seven years means your driver license will be suspended for one year. No restricted license is allowed for the first 60 days. The driver license reinstatement fee is $125. This fee is separate from the reinstatement fee required for any other driving activity. |
